One might be wondering what the purpose of humanity is, or if it has any purpose. Are we just breeding amoebas meant to survive desolately on a rock flung out in space until we are one day roasted by the expanding sun or destroyed by an asteroid or destroyed by ourselves.

Although the last option is a great possibility and the one before that equally nearby in the not too distant future, I am not here to preach doom. There is already sufficient doom in the world. I am here to give hope; humanity might have a purpose after all. Although movies like Blade Runner 2049 don’t paint a very cool image of our near future, after all it is not the only vision possible and there are always other possibilities.
Earth humanity is a seed, meant to be transplanted to other planets around our current galaxy and eventually our entire universe. I do not use the word colonize because it usually connotes some kind of conquest or battle. We are meant to transplant as much people as are willing to other planets in this milky way galaxy. The only battle we might have to fight is the battle of defeating the speed of light, and I don’t think there might be any single individual to solve that most gigantic of problems, even greater than that we are currently experiencing in the replication of human consciousness, aka artificial intelligence.
Humanity will have to collaborate at a greater level that is currently being done in our hyper competitive societies to solve the enormous problems of the future. Our biggest problems not only include finding a way to achieve faster than light travel, the only way interstellar travel can be efficiently done, other ways are probably too slow and inefficient. We also have to find a way of reengineering the human body to be so adaptable that it can rid itself of ageing, disease and even death. The body must be able to adapt to many kinds of environments to colonize most planets of the universe that even exist in the so called green zones.
Most of this cannot be achieved by waiting for biological evolution to solve the problem. Evolution has done its work it has created a body capable of being infused by consciousness, now it is time for that very consciousness to continue the work of evolution consciously creating the more advanced bodies that can cope with the strain of interstellar travel and eventual residence on strange planets with unexpected circumstances of all kinds.
We will need more brains working on this problem than currently working on them, so therefore humanity’s first step is to find a way of stabilizing and reengineering the world away from the values we hold now to values more in line with creating a societies were many people of various inclinations could be brought to bear on the grand challenges of humanity.
This is what we should be doing, to prepare humanity for a bright and more glorious future in the stars. We don’t need to use fear as a weapon to force humanity to the stars. There are more people willing to participate in many projects if certain deep structures of the world allow, and there are also brains wasting away in hunger because humanity is still segmented in small hamlets called countries. We should come together despite our diversity, each contributing their quota to the common wealth. Humanity has a chance; I am a believer in a hopeful future! Artificial Intelligence will help us but the human brain will do most. We should try our utmost to bring more brains to bear on our global challenges rather than increasing stress on the already existing artists and scientist working on global problems.
